David Batista

David Batista got his start in this business like so many others in this industry - by finding someone to teach him the right way to do it. That someone was Afa, of WWE fame, and also of the Wild Samoan Training Center in Allentown, PA. There, Dave learned the basics of this business from someone who had been through it himself,...

David Batista

Through hard work and dedication, Dave earned himself a spot in Afa's WXW promotion, debuting in July 1999 as Kahn. During his seven month tenure in WXW, Batista was overpowering - to the point that WWE brass started to pay attention. Dave was rewarded for his efforts by being sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), a known WWE training ground for up-and-coming talent.

David BatistaIn OVW, Batista - there known as Leviathan, the "Demon from the Deep" - continued his dominant ways, making his television debut July 15, 2000, coming to the aid of OVW's stalwart vixen, Synn. He secured victories over current WWE talent The Big Show and Kane, while facing other huge stars like Steve Austin and the Undertaker. He worked with then OVW alumni Brock Lesnar, Sean O'Haire, John Cena and Randy Orton - all of whom have enjoyed WWE success.

Dave won the OVW Heavyweight Championship from Doug "Machine" Basham on November 11, 2001 and held it until February 20, 2002, when he lost in a controversial match to John "Prototype" Cena. From there, he fell into disfavor with then-manager Synn, demanding a title re-match and developing a sense of independence. Finally, she "sold" his contract to Reverend D'Von, and Dave's WWE career began.

Batista's national television debut came on May 9, 2002, when he appeared on SmackDown in the corner of D'Von as Deacon Batista. He carried a lockbox for donations to be made to D'Von's "ministry" and helped the Reverend to an impressive streak of victories, including one over Triple H. However, Batista was not to be overshadowed for long and he parted ways with D'von, in dramatic fashion, in September of 2002, leaving SmackDown behind.

An independent and determined David Batista made his RAW debut on November 4, 2002. The familiar dominance continued, as he racked up victory after victory, subjecting all who dared enter his path to the now feared DemonBomb (a sit-out power bomb). People took notice, including wrestling legend Ric Flair. It wasn't long before Flair and Batista formed a partnership, which slowly became something more with the addition of Randy Orton and Triple H.

For well over two years, Evolution ruled RAW. Batista comfortably fell into an enforcer role, allowing him to hone his power-wrestling style. When Randy Orton was unceremoniously ousted from the group in August 2004, Dave officially became Triple H's right hand man. But in late 2004, cracks started to show in Evolution's armor, particularly when Batista scored an impressive victory over Rhyno in a Beat the Clock match, affording him the opportunity to enter the Elimination Chamber match last at New Year's Revolution - a position coveted by Triple H himself.

The tension between Batista and Triple H increased as 2005 began, and Evolution seemed ready to implode after Dave won the Royal Rumble and the chance to face either World Champion at WrestleMania 21. The explosion finally came on RAW in late February, when Batista decided he would face Triple H at WM21 and took the champ down at the official contract signing. When the dust settled in Los Angeles on April 3, 2005, Batista held the World Championship high above his head in victory.

The first order of business as champion was to stave off Triple H, intent on getting his title back. The two fought for months, most notably in a vicious Hell in a Cell match at Vengeance, with the Animal ultimately retaining his title. In the process, he became the first wrestler to defeat the Game in three consecutive matches.

David BatistaIn the summer of 2005, Batista was the final and most shocking pick of the WWE draft and took his powerful style to the Smackdown! brand. Needless to say, this ignited a feud with former champ JBL, who took offence to the addition of the World Title holder to "his" show. Things came to head in Dave's hometown of Washington DC at SummerSlam, where he defeated JBL in a No Holds  Barred match.

Not content with singles gold, the Animal formed a friendship and successful tag team with Rey Mysterio, eventually winning the Tag Team Titles from MNM. The titles were dropped to Kane and the Big Show, but Rey and Batista fought to get their titles back. Interference from Superstar Mark Henry - who singled the Animal out for attack - foiled their chances.

Henry wasn't about to get away with it. Batista fought back, instigating a rivalry that would last for months. Unfortunately, during one of their bouts, Dave suffered a serious tricep injury and was forced to relinquish the World Title on January 10, 2006. During his recovery, The Animal mainly kept out of the spotlight, however, made a few brief but important appearances, most notably at No Way Out and Wrestlemania 22. His return to SmackDown! came on July 7, 2006 when he returned the favour and attacked Henry.

Batista's in-ring return was on July 15, 2006, at Saturday Night's Main Event, where along with Rey Mysterio and Lashley, he garnered a victory in a six-man tag match. Unfortunately, his much looked-forward to match with Henry at the Great American Bash had to be put on hold, as in a bizarre twist of fate, Henry suffered an injury that sidelined the athlete from competition. In his place was Mr. Kennedy, who quickly found out that not only was the Animal back, but he was putting everyone on notice. The match ended in a DQ - with Dave on the losing side when he refused to stop taking Kennedy apart.

A title match was finally granted to Dave at Summerslam 2006, against now champion King Booker. Unfortunately, this match also ended in a DQ, though in Batista's favour this time, but left him without the title belt around his waist.

During the week of November 5, 2007, he appeared on Family Feud with several other WWE superstars. On September 7, 2008, he appeared on an episode of Iron Chef America as one of the judges, with snails as the theme ingredient Batista, along with Candice Michelle, Shelton Benjamin, and Josh Matthews, represented the WWE at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in an effort to persuade fans to register to vote in the 2008 Presidential election. Bautista has also appeared on MTV Cribs showing his house and his cars.

In May 2, 2009, he was shown on camera where he accompanied Philippine boxer Manny Pacquiao in his fight against British boxer Ricky Hatton in which Pacquiao won in the 2nd round. He told in UK Sun that he loves Hatton but Manny is in a league of his own, he also added that he is thrilled to be there to support Manny before his bout.

In June 2009, Batista will be making a cameo appearance in an episode of the Australian soap Neighbours.
